Beim ältesten Landschaftsmarathon in Essen rund um den Baldeneysee ging wieder Janek Waldschmidt an den Start.

Diesmal nahm er die Marathon-Distanz in Angriff. Erstmals wurden auch die Europameisterschaften der Gehörlosen dort ausgetragen, was zu einer besonderen Stimmung an der Strecke beigetragen hat.

Die Strecke führte erst oberhalb des Baldeneysee Richtung Innenstadt, dort laufen die Teilnehmer eine kleine Runde durch die Stadt, bevor es etwa neun Kilometer am See entlang und von dort über die alte Eisenbahnbrücke zum Wendepunkt, in der Nähe der Autobahn, geht. Dieser Parcours muss zweimal durchlaufen werden.

Janek beendet den gut organisierten Lauf mit neuer Bestzeit. Die Uhr blieb für ihn, beim Überqueren der Ziellinie, bei 3:20:20 Stunden stehen, dieses bedeutete Platz vier in der Männerhauptklasse und gleichzeitig Platz 60 im Gesamteinlauf.
